Gators fall at University of Rochester Tournament; Putriment named to All-Tournament Squad

Rochester, NY – The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team wrapped play on Saturday at the University of Rochester Invitational. In the first match of the day, Sage fell in a heartbreaker, 3-2 to Elmira (22-25, 28-26,13-25,25-19,15-12). The Gators lost the final contest of the day to the host Yellowjackets of the University of Rochester, 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-21). Sage stands at 3-4 now on the year.  The Gators return home on Tuesday, September 9 hosting SUNY-Cobleskill in a 7 p.m. match at Kahl Gym in the 2014 home opener for Sage.

Against Elmira, sophomore middle hitter Michayla Berard (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) added 12 kills with three digs, while senior middle hitter Rachel Martin (Troy, NY/Troy) added 13 kills , with four digs and six block assists.  Sophomore outside hitter Siena Wilder (Ballston Spa, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Lake) connected for two kills with two aces and 19 digs with a block assist. Sophomore setter Rachel Liebig (Hartford, NY/Hartford) connected for 40 setting assists in the action while adding four digs.  Another rookie, defensive specialist Missy Schneiderman (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) added 25 digs, while senior Helen Putriment (Troy, NY/Cobleskill-Rochmondville) tallied six kills with 24 digs and two aces.

Against Rochester, Putriment had 10 kills with 14 digs and two aces, while Berard connected for six kills, a dig and one block assist. Wilder had three aces, while Liebig added 21 setting assists with nine digs. Scheiderman added 18 digs for the Gators in the action.

Putriment was named to the All-Tournament Team for her efforts at the tournament.
