Gators sweep Cobleskill in three sets

Albany, NY – The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team hosted the Fighting Tigers of SUNY-Cobleskill in the Gators' home opener on Tuesday night in Kahl Gym. Sage posted the 3-0 win (25-14, 25-21, 25-8) and improves to 4-4, while SUNY-Cobleskill drops to 3-2.

Sage took set one, 25-14 and had a .407 attack percentage in the action and held the Fighting Tigers to a 0.032 attack percentage. SUNY-Cobleskill took an early lead, 4-0, before Sage came back and the action became tied at 6-6. Sage went on to take the set 25-21 in a tough fought set.   In the final set, Sage held a 10-5 lead and then cruised to the 25-8 victory.

For the Gators, sophomore middle hitter Michayla Berard (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) added eight kills with a dig and had a .438 hitting percentage in the match. Senior Helen Putriment (Troy, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) tallied six kills with three digs. Sophomore outside hitter Siena Wilder (Ballston Spa, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Lake) connected for five kills, all in the first set and tallied five digs as well.

Senior middle hitter Rachel Martin (Troy, NY/Troy) added five kills with an ace and two digs, sophomore setter Rachel Liebig (Hartford, NY/Hartford) connected for 34 setting assists in the action while adding four digs.  Another rookie, defensive specialist Missy Schneiderman (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) added 10 digs to pace the Gators as they combined for a .310 attack percentage in the match-up.

For SUNY-Cobleskill, junior outside hitter Raven Worthing (Owego, NY/Tioga) added three kills with three aces and a team-best 10 digs. Sophomore libero Noelle Horton (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) connected for seven digs with two kills.  Rookie setter Sarah Ruggles (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) handed out eight  setting assists.

Sage returns to action on September 12 and 13 competing in the Plattsburgh State College Invitational and opens play on Friday facing Plattsburgh State at 7 p.m. Next up for SUNY-Cobleskill in competition in the Green Mountain College Quadrangle Meet as the team's first match at 10 a.m. on September 13.
