Sage posts 3-0 win over MCLA in non-conference volleyball action

Troy, NY – The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team hosted the Trailblazers of Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on Tuesday night in the Neff Center in a non-conference match. The Gators triumphed, 3-0 (25-9, 25-14, 25-14). The Gators improve to 5-13 overall, while MCLA drops to 7-6.

For the Gators, sophomore Mickey Mango (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) connected for a team-best 10 kills, while hitting .615 in the match. Sage's junior outside hitter Helen Putriment (Troy, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) added nine kills with eight digs and an ace and was a perfect 7-0 on receptions for a 1.000 reception percentage on the evening.

Senior setter Joanie Cooney (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) handed out 30 setting assists with five digs, while junior defensive specialist Katelyn Drollette (Cadyville, NY/Saranac) had 13 digs with an ace.

Freshman Sara Campolieta (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) added six kills with four digs and was also prefect on receptions with no errors on six attempts.

For the Trailblazers, freshman Sam Anderson (Floral Park, NY/Floral Park) led the team with five kills, while a trio of performers added four kills. Junior Allie Chang (Northport, NY/Northport), freshman Rachel Mills (Highland Mills, NY/Monroe), and junior Darien Quick (Sparrowbush, NY/Port Jervis) added four kills each, while Chang had two aces and sophomore libero Jackie Paluilis (Orange, MA/Mahar) added five digs and had just two errors in her 33 receiving attempts.

Sage returns to action on September 28 travelling to SUNY-Old Westbury for a 3 p.m. Skyline Conference match, while MCLA is also in action on September 28 facing Worcester State in a MASCAC conference match to be held at Assumption College at noon.
