Putriment named to All-Tournament at Scranton Invitational


Scranton, PA – The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team wrapped action on Sunday at the two-day University of Scranton Invitational. In the first match of the day, the Gators fell 3-0 at the hands of Lycoming College (25-18, 25-14, 25-22). In what was the championship match for the visitors from John Carroll (which went 4-0 at the tournament, JCU posted a 3-0 win (25-20, 25-21, 25-10). Sage stands at 1-3 on the young season.

Earning a selection to the all-tournament team from Sage was junior outside hitter Helen Putriment (Troy, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) as she had an impressive weekend with 48 kills, seven aces, 50 digs and five blocks. She averaged 3.0 kills per set with 3.12 digs per set and had a .223 hitting percentage.

Against Lycoming she had eight kills and six digs, while freshman Michayla Berard (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) added four kills with two solo blocks and block assist.  Senior setter Joanie Cooney (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) added eight setting assists with 13 digs.

Junior co-captain Katelyn Drollette (Cadyville, NY/Saranac) tallied 12 digs, while rookie outside Sara Campolieta (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) added two kills with six digs and a block assist.

Against John Carroll University, Sage was paced by the play of Putriment with seven kills and nine digs, while Drollette had a team-best 13 digs. Junior outside hitter Jillian Schwab (Fayetteville, NY/Fayetteville Manlius) had three kills, while freshman setter Rachel Liebig (Hartford, NY/Hartford) had 12 setting assists and two digs.

Sophomore Mickey Mango (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) racked up four kills.

Sage will be back in action with the team's hope opener on Wednesday, September 4 hosting nearby Skidmore College in Kahl Gym at 7 p.m. Sage will be holding the team's "White Out Night" and all fans are encouraged to wear white clothing to the match that will also feature special contests, giveaways and a possible special guest!
