Albany, NY – The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team will be taking to the court for the third straight season under the guidance of veteran head coach Sandy Augstein-Collins, the 2012 Skyline Conference Women's Volleyball Coach of the Year. A year ago, the Gators posted a 20-13 record under Augstein-Collins after racking up an impressive 8-1 mark in the Skyline Conference. Not only did the Gators earn the No. 2 seed in the Skyline Tournament, but the squad also qualified for the 2012 ECAC Division III Upstate Tournament.
With nine letterwinners returning to the lineup, including two Skyline Conference All-Star First Team performers, senior setter Joanie Cooney (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) and junior outside hitter Helen Putriment (Troy, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville). A 2012 Skyline Conference Second-Team pick as a rookie, sophomore right side Morgan Robinson (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) returns to the floor as well.
The Gators will compete in three tournaments this fall when they take to the court. The season opens on August 31 and September 1 when the team visits Pennsylvania to compete in the University of Scranton Tournament, where they will face the host Royals of Scranton, Mt. Aloysius College, John Carroll University, and Lycoming College. The Gators will travel to the Endicott College Tournament on September 6-7 and will face Bowdoin College, UMass-Boston, Roger Williams University, and Plymouth State University. The final tournament in September will have Sage travelling to Connecticut where the Gators will compete in the Trinity University Invitational with matches against Trinity, Bridgewater State (MA), Colby Sawyer College and Western Connecticut State University.
The home campaign will have the Gators entertaining their fans in both the Kahl Gym (Albany, NY) and the Neff Athletic Center (Troy, NY) on six dates.
The Gators will open home competition on September 4 hosting the Thoroughbreds of Skidmore College in the Kahl Gym in a 7 p.m. non-conference match. The night will be Sage's "White Out Night", so fans are encouraged to wear white to support the Gators.
Back in action in the Kahl Gym on September 11, the Gators host Bard College in a 7 p.m. contest before MCLA visits the Neff Center on September 24 for a 7 p.m. non-conference match in Troy to round out home competition for the month of September.
Sage will host Yeshiva University and Maritime College in the Neff Center for a Skyline Conference Tri-Match. The first match for the day has Sage facing Maritime College at 11:00 a.m., while Yeshiva and Maritime meet at 1 p.m. The day wraps with Sage facing Yeshiva University at 3 p.m.
Oneonta State will visit Sage and the Kahl Gym on October 29 for a 7 p.m. non-conference match, while the final regular-season home match of the 2013 season will take place in the Neff Center with Sage hosting Skyline Conference opponent, Purchase College. The final home match starts at 1 p.m. and will also honor Sage's 2013 seniors in conjunction with "Senior Day."
