Sage cruises past Bard in women's volleyball action

Albany, NY – The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team hosted Bard College in the Kahl Gym on Wednesday night in a non-conference match. Sage recorded the 3-0 win (25-14, 25-13, 25-12) and improves to 2-8 on the season, while Bard drops to 1-5.  

Sage sophomore Morgan Robinson (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) added six kills, while sophomore Mickey Mango (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) added a team-best nine kills with three blocks.

For the Gators, junior outside hitter Helen Putriment (Troy, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) had seven kills with three digs. Junior defensive specialist Katelyn Drollette (Cadyville, NY/Saranac) had a team-best eight digs in the action.  Rookie Michayla Berard (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) added six kills with two digs and five total blocks. Sage's senior setter Joanie Cooney (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) added 31 setting assists with two kills and three digs.

Putriment has already connected for 90 kills this season, elevating her career resume to include 776 kills, which is No. 6 on the career list at Sage. She has also picked up one double-double this fall and now has 114 digs with 11 aces and seven total blocks on the 2013 season. She ranks No. 12 on the career list with her 971 digs and is poised to join the 1,000 dig club this month.

Cooney, who leads the team with her 155 setting assists this season, now has 2,558 career setting assists and ranks No. 2 at Sage.

Bard's sophomore Tytravia Riley (Newtown, CT/Wooster School) led all players with her 10 kills on the night while senior Mai Aurell-Fousler (New York, NY/P.T.I.S.) added six kills with an ace. Sophomore Rebecca Speckenbach (Sag Harbor, NY/Pierson) tallied five kills while freshman libero Daniella Azulai (Brooklyn, NY/New York City Lab School) had a match best nine digs.

Junior setter Lexi Cooper (Round Rock, TX/Lawrenceville School) handed out 22 setting assists in the action with six digs.

Sage returns to action on September 13 and 14 travelling to Trinity University (CT) for a two-day tournament and four matches. Bard College is also in action on September 13 and 14 travelling to Ramapo College to compete in the Roadrunner Invitational.
