Granby, MA–The Sage Colleges' men's golf team opened the 2016 spring season on Tuesday competing at the Elms College Blazer Spring Invitational at Westover Country Club. A par 72 course, Babson's Lukas Linemayer shot a 74 on the day to finish as the medalist and lead his team to the team crown as well as Babson posted a round of 323 for the day. Sage finished in seventh place in the eight-team tournament after the Gators shot a 434 for the day.
Leading the way for the Gators was rookie Ryan Fairweather (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) as he finished in 31st place with a round of 102 in his Sage golf debut. Sophomore Kevin Saar (Binghamton, NY/Windsor Central) fired a 106 on the day and was 33rd.
Senior Dan Schilde (Sharon Springs, NY/Sharon Springs Central) posted a 110 for the debut and was 34th, just ahead of senior Melvin Ford (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional), who carded a 116 and was 35th. Junior Brett Ullman (Sharon Springs, NY/Sharon Springs Central) posted a 117 and was 36th for Sage.
Sage will wrap the 2016 season on Friday, April 29 travelling to the SUNY-Cobleskill Spring Invitational with a noon start.
