Softball Splits on the Road at SUNY-New Paltz

NEW PALTZ, NY – Freshmen Kiersten Duncan (Millerton, NY/Taconic Hills) went 3-6 with three RBI's as Sage split wih New Paltz with a 5-3 win and a 5-0 loss.

In their game one win, Sage (9-9) got off to an early 2-0 with a RBI's from Duncan and Allison Ford (Mechanicville, Mechanicville) in the top of the second. The Hawks responded in the bottom of the second when Lauren Cappello scored on a Nicole DeCosta single to right center.

The Gators went up 4-1 in the top of the third when Courtney Laughlin (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) and Jenn Onwe (Tarrytown, NY/Sleepy Hollow) scored on a double down the right field line.

New Paltz (7-7) came back within two runs in the bottom of the fifth when Taylor LaFrance scored on a Julia Perhacs singled to left center.

In the top of the sixth, Sage went up 5-2 when Duncan scored on a Ford single to the shortstop. The Hawks tried to rally in the bottom of the sixth when Jordan Fiore scored on a DeCosta single, but Sage went on to win 5-3.

Lindsay Brace (Moriah, NY/Moriah Central) (4-4) picked up the win with a season-high nine strikeouts while Katie Rutcofsky (4-3) was credited with the loss.

Leading Sage on offense was Duncan (3-4, three RBI's, two runs) and Ford (2-4, two RBI's) while New Paltz was led by DeCosta (2-3, two RBI's).

In game two, New Paltz got off to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first before adding three more in the bottom of the third.

The game was called after the sixth inning due to darkness, and the 5-0 score stood as the final.

Rutcofsky (5-3) was credited with the win on a 10 strikeout effort while Ford (2-4) picked on the loss on a complete game effort.

Leading Sage on offense was Ford (2-3) and Morgan Dunn (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) (2-3) while the Hawks were led by Perhacs (2-2, two runs, RBI), Rutcofsky (1-2, RBI, run) and Fallon Spriggs (1-3, run).

Sage currently sits atop the Skyline with Mt. St. Mary with a perfect 4-0 conference record.

The Gators open their home schedule at Robison Field with doubleheaders with Farmingdale St. on Saturday at Noon and Yeshiva on Sunday, also at noon.
