Sage Softball Garners Record 15th Straight Win

MARCY, NY – Katy Rimawi (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) went 4-8 with five RBI's as Sage swept SUNY-Polytechnic 10-2 (five innings) and 8-0  (five innings) to win their record-breaking 15th straight win.

In game one, Rimawi got Sage (24-10) off to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Morgan Dunn (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) double to left center field. The Gators extended their lead to in the top of the second when Allison Ford (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville), Lindsay Brace (Moriah, NY/Moriah Central), Jennifer Onwe (Tarrytown, NY/Sleepy Hollow), Alexa Silk (Freehold, NY/Greenville) Rimawi and Dunn scored to go up 7-0.

The Gators went up 10-0 in the top of the fourth when Silk, Dunn and Courtney Laughlin (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) scored on Kiersten Duncan (Millerton, NY/Taconic Hills), Laughlin and Ownew RBI's, respectively.

SUNY-Polytechnic (9-13) broke Brace's shutout in the bottom of the fourth when Corinna Laracuente scored on a Fallon Reinold RBI. The Wildcats added a second run in the bottom of the fifth when Erika Charbonneau score on an Angela Bartlett RBI, but it wouldn't be enough as Sage went on to win 10-2 after five innings.

Brace (10-4) was credited with the win with five strikeouts with Ford picking up her second save of the year. SUNY-Polytechnic's Hannah Wasco (3-8) picked up the loss after five innings of work.

In the top of the second in game two, Dunn, Jessica Adams (Nassau, NY/Columbia), Onwe, Ford and Melissa Estremera (Millbrook, NY/Millbrook) scored to put the Gators up 5-0.

Sage went up 6-0 in the top of the fourth when Estremera scored on a Dunn RBI. The Gators extended their lead to 8-0 in the top of the fifth when Estremera and Onwe scored on a Rimawi single through the left side. The Gators held on for the shutout and won 8-0.

Ford (6-4) was credited with the shutout win on a seven strikeout effort, while Elizabeth Riegler was picked up the loss with two strikeouts.

In today's record breaking day, Dunn set the new single-season doubles record.

The Gators re-enter Skyline play Saturday as they take on Mt. St. Vincent on the campus of SUNY-Old Westbury on April 23 at 11 a.m.
