Guyton breaks career ace mark as Sage tops 2 Skyline foes on Sunday; Win streak grows to 5!

Bronxville, NYThe Sage Colleges' men's volleyball team travelled to Sarah Lawrence College on Sunday afternoon for a Skyline Conference Tri-Match with Purchase College. Sage posted a pair of 3-0 wins on Sunday to extend the squad's win streak to five matches. Sage is now 13-15 overall and 10-4 in the Skyline. The Gators topped the Gryphons of SLC, 25-12, 25-12, 25-11 and then posted a 3-0 win over Purchase, 25-17, 25-20, 25-19.

With Sunday's two Skyline victories, the 2016 Gators have collected the second most league wins in a season, just two shy of the 12-2 league mark recorded by the 2013 team, which finished as the Skyline runner-up after a 30-7 campaign.

Sage's sophomore Ryan Guyton (Lockport, NY/Lockport) broke the Gator career ace mark on Sunday as he surpassed Kyle Ray's career record (98 aces, 2010-2013) as he now has 103 aces. Guyton also improved to the No. 5 spot in the career record book with his 578.0 points, while also standing No. 5 in career kills (420).

Against SLC, Sage's sophomore Bailey Cecchi (Agawam, MA/Agawam) racked up seven kills with four digs, an ace and was a perfect -0 on reception attempts. Rookie Zachary Karl (Central Square, NY/Central Square) added six kills with an ace, while senior setter Anthony Gerace (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) connected for 29 setting assists with an impressive four aces. Freshman Austin Laverty (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) added five kills with two aces and was also 6-0 on reception attempts.

As a team, Sage had a blistering .421 attack percentage and combined for 17 aces in the contest.

Against Purchase, Sage posted the season's fifth straight Skyline win as they held Purchase to a .095 attach percentage in the match, while posting a .284 attack percentage and only three errors on 49 reception attempts as a team.

Guyton had 11 kills with a .435 attack percentage and racked up four aces with two digs. Cecchi added eight kills with five aces and six digs, while standing a perfect 19-0 on reception attempts in the contest.

Junior Chris MacArthur (Hillsdale, NY/Taconic Hills) added six kills with three aces, while sophomore Casey Fitzpatrick (Haverhill, MA/Haverhill) added two kills with 29 setting assists with four digs and a pair of block assists. Sophomore Melvin Tejada (Springfield, MA/Springfield Central) had seven digs for the Gators.

Cecchi continues his climb as well in the program's career record book as he moved to the No. 4 spot in career kills with 602, while also ranking No. 4 in points (602.5). Gerace moved into the No. 3 spot on the career setting assist list as he has 737 in his time in a Sage uniform.

Sage returns to action on March 26 travelling to Springfield College for a non-conference tri-match with Daniel Webster College.
