Farbotko's 19 points helps lift Gators past Maritime, 71-65

Throggs Neck, NY-- The Sage Colleges' men's basketball team travelled to Maritime College for a Skyline Conference contest. The Gators posted a 71-65 win to sweep the Privateers on the season and now stand at 10-10 overall and 5-8 in the league. Maritime College falls to 4-13 overall and 3-9 in the league.

The Gators held a 30-28 lead at the break and after several lead changes and ties in the second half, Sage took the lead for good in the final minute and a half of play and held on for the win.

Sage's senior forward Matt Farbotko (Rouses Point, NY/Northeastern Clinton) led the team with 19 points, while senior center Ryan Sager (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane) racked up another double-double with his 17 points and 11 rebounds. Farbotko, who hit 7-of-11 shots from the floor, has now led the Gators in scoring in nine games and now has 1,123 career points. Sager has been the top rebounder 10 times and now has 651 points and 463 rebounds on his career.

Junior guard Mason Horne (Albany, NY/LaSalle Institute) connected for 15 points and shot 60.0% from the floor (6-10) to help the Gators.

For the game, Sage shot 54.2% from the floor (26-48) and held were able to collect 16 points off turnovers. Maritime's Sean Corley had a game-high 21 points, while three others had double digit scoring for the Privateers.

Sage returns to action on Saturday, February 2 when they travel to Mt. St. Mary College for a 3 p.m. Skyline Conference contest.
