Sage tops SJC 96-65 in push toward program's first Skyline Tournament berth

Patchogue, NY-- The Sage Colleges' men's basketball team travelled to St. Joseph's College (LI) for a Skyline Conference contest. The Gators posted an impressive 96-65 win and have moved everr closer to collecting a possible berth to the Skyline Conference Tournament. The seeds will not be set until last Saturday night, the Gators are now in contention for a spot in the field in just the fourth season of the Sage men's basketball program.

Sage stands at 12-12 overall and 7-10 in the Skyline standing in fifth place after tonight's league games after being tapped seventh in the league's pre-season poll. SJC drops to 6-18 overall and 4-13 in the league. The Gators held a 56-32 lead at the intermission and cruised to the win and finish the year with a sweep of the Golden Eagles.

Sage's senior forward Matt Farbotko (Rouses Point, NY/Northeastern Clinton) racked up a team-best 21 points to lead the Gators after he was a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line and 3-3 from three-point range.  He elevated his season performance to include a personal-best 355 points, while also lifting his program leading total to include 1,186 points.

Senior guard Will Hennep (Wheatley Heights, NY/Half Hollow Hills West) also poured in a personal-best 14 points after making 5-of-8 field goals for the Gators as they combined to shoot nearly 50.0% for the night (49.2%). Junior Mason Horne (Albany, NY/LaSalle Institute) also connected for double-digit scoring output in the contest as he had 11 points. He leads the Gators in scoring this season with his 387 points, which is an active Sage single-season record. He owns a 16.1 ppg average this season, while moving closer to his 1,000th career point as he now has 952 points.

Sage returns to action on Saturday, February 16 hosting the league's No. 1 in the regular-season finale, SUNY-Old Westbury at 3 p.m. in the Kahl Gym. The Gators will honor their 2012-2013 seniors prior to the game, Farbotko, Ryan Sager (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane) and Hennep. The Gators have planned a "White Out" for the day and are asking Sage fans to wear white to the game.
