Sager's career-high not enough as Gators fall to Plattsburgh

Plattsburgh, NY-- The Sage Colleges' men's basketball team opened the 2012-2013 season on Friday night in the opening round of Plattsburgh State's Tip-Off Tournament.  The host Cardinals of Plattsburgh State posted an 80-62 win over Sage to advance to the title game on Saturday at 4 p.m. York College (NY) defeated Norwich University, 69-59 in the other first round game on Friday night.  Sage will now face Norwich University on Saturday in the 2 p.m. consolation game.

Sage's senior center Ryan Sager (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane) led the Gators on opening night with his career-best 25 points, bettering his previous high of 22 points from the 2010-2011 season against Maritime.

Senior forward Matt Farbotko (Rouses Point, NY/Northeastern Clinton) added 14 points and six rebounds for the Gators, while junior guard Mason Horne (Albany, NY/LaSalle Institute) added 10 points as well for Sage. Horne and Sager finished as the team's top rebounders with seven caroms each.

Sage held a 41-40 edge on the boards in the contest, while limiting Plattsburgh State to just a 23.1% effort from three-point range (6-26).

The Cardinals benefit from four different players that finished the night in double-digits including sophomore forward Ezra Hodgson who had 20 points and made 9-of-14 shots from the floor. Shamoy McIntosh added 15 points for Plattsburgh with six steals and a pair of three-point baskets, while Jordan Moody tallied 12 points.
