Farbotko earns All-Tournament Honors as Sage triumphs over Norwich, 72-48

Plattsburgh, NY-- The Sage Colleges' men's basketball team picked up a convincing 72-48 win over Norwich University on Saturday afternoon in the second day of action in the Plattsburgh State's Tip-Off Tournament.  Sage improves to 1-1 on the season, while the loss puts Norwich at 0-2.

Senior forward Matt Farbotko (Rouses Point, NY/Northeastern Clinton) added 17 points and six rebounds for the Gators and was named to the All-Tournament Team after finishing the weekend with 31 points and 12 rebounds.  Farbotko now has 862 career points and is poised to become the young Sage men's varsity team's first 1,000 point scorer.

Joining Farbotko with his 17 points on the day was sophomore guard Troy Nwanna (Washington, DC/Mercersburg Academy). Nwanna hit 4-of-5 of his shots from three-point range and was 5-7 from the floor on the day, while adding a pair of blocked shots.

Sage's junior guard Mason Horne (Albany, NY/LaSalle Institute) added 11 points as well for Sage with five assists and four steals. Freshman forward Melvin Ford (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) tallied nine points off the bench with three rebounds and two steals to pace the Gators.

Norwich held a 28-26 lead at the break and the Gators exploded for 46 second half points, while holding the Norwich squad to just 33.3% from the floor (7-21) shooting and collected a 41-27 edge on the boards. Sage shot 51.6% from the floor in the second half (16-31), while making eight three-pointers for the game.

The Gators return to action on November 20 travelling to RPI for an 8 p.m. non-conference contest with the Engineers.
