Horne's 19 points paces Gators to key Skyline win over Maritime, 81-59

Albany, NY-- The Sage Colleges' men's basketball team hosted the Privateers of Maritime College on Monday night in a Skyline Conference game at the Kahl Gym. Sage collected the 81-59 victory to improve to 7-6 overall and 3-4 in the league, while Maritime drops to 1-9 overall and 0-5 in the conference.

The Gators held a 38-28 lead at the break and held the Privateers to just one point for the first six and half minutes of the second half, while going on a 21-1 run. Sage held a 59-29 lead before the Privateers went on a run of their own and cut the lead to just 18 (Sage 71-53, 4:51).

By game's end, Sage's lineup had three starters in double-digit scoring. Junior Mason Horne (Albany, NY/La Salle Institute) connected for 19 points, while junior guard Jeff Stopera (Scotia, NY/Scotia Glenville) added 14 points. Senior forward Matt Farbotko (Rouses Point, NY/Northeastern Clinton) connected for 12 points and now has 1,020 career points as the Gators' all-time leading career scorer.

Sage's senior center Ryan Sager (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane) finished with a 10 rebounds, and netted six points for the Gators. Sophomore guard Troy Nwanna (Washington, DC/Mercersburg Academy) added eight points with eight rebounds for Sage, while picking off four steals and handing out three assists.

Maritime's senior guard Ron Bethea (Harlem, NY/Humanities Prep) finished with a game-high 21 points as he shot 9-16 from the floor. Sophomore guard Sean Corley (Harlem, NY/Thurgood Marshall) added a double-double for the Privateers with his 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Sage returns to action on January 16 when they host Mt. St. Mary College in a 7 p.m. Skyline Conference match-up in the Kahl Gym.  Maritime College is also back in action on January 16 hosting SUNY Old Westbury in a 7 p.m. Skyline Conference contest.
