Sager's double-double not enough as Sage falls at Old Westbury

Old Westbury, NY-- The Sage Colleges' men's basketball team travelled to SUNY-Old Westbury for a Skyline Conference contest with the Panthers. Old Westbury posted an 85-73 win to remain unbeaten in the league with a 9-0 record, while standing at 14-3 overall. The loss puts Sage at 8-8 overall and 3-6 in the Skyline Conference.

Old Westbury jumped out to a 46-21 lead at the break and held the Gators to a 34.6% shooting performance in the first half. Sage had a huge second half as they tallied 52 points, but could not overcome the Panthers' strong first half.

Sage's senior center Ryan Sager (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane) tallied a double-double with 21 points and 16 rebounds. He shot a blistering 80.0% from the floor after making 8-of-10 shots and made 5-of-6 shots from the free throw line.

Senior forward Matt Farbotko (Rouses Point, NY/Northeastern Clinton) finished with 15 points, while junior Mason Horne (Albany, NY/La Salle Institute) tallied 14 points. Junior guard Jeff Stopera (Scotia, NY/Scotia Glenville) added 12 points with seven assists, while sophomore Jacob Jopchak (Rhinebeck, NY/Rhinebeck) exploded for a personal-best five blocks off the bench.

Old Westbury's Ty Moore had 20 points, while Tyrik Tucker and Josh Hill each finished with 16 points for the Panthers.

Sage returns to action on Thursday, January 24 facing Mt. St. Vincent on the on the road in a conference contest at 8 p.m.
