Career-high 18 points from Stopera and 19 from Sager lift Gators to win over NYU-Poly

Albany, NY-- The Sage Colleges' men's basketball team hosted NYU-Poly on Tuesday night in the Kahl Gym in a Skyline Conference contest. The host Gators posted a 77-65 win to sweep the Jays on the season and now stand at 9-10 overall and 4-8 in the league. NYU-Poly falls to 4-13 overall and 1-10 in the league.

Sage held a 36-29 lead at the break as junior guard Jeff Stopera (Scotia, NY/Scotia Glenville) led the team with his 13 first half points. He finished with a season and career-best 18 points before fouling out. He added a pair of steals and assists for the Gators after hitting 5-of-9 from the floor with three from downtown.

Sage's senior center Ryan Sager (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane) had a team-best 19 points and for the fourth time this season finished as the Gators' high scorer as he had 19 points after shooting a blistering 9-11 from the floor. He had six rebounds and a pair of blocks and leads the Gators in both categories as he now has 160 rebounds and 28 blocks.

Sage's senior forward Matt Farbotko (Rouses Point, NY/Northeastern Clinton) chipped in with 13 points and was the Gator high rebounder with nine rebounds, while junior guard Mason Horne (Albany, NY/LaSalle Institute) had 11 points.

For the Jays, rookie guard Jamel Gist (Brooklyn, NY/Newsome) had 20 points and hit 7-of-16 from the floor with three steals. Sophomore guard Thomas Fabian (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) added 14 points with two steals and two assists. Sophomore forward Stefan Stoyanovich (Raleigh, NC/Ravenscroft) also finished in double digits with 12 points and a game-leading 16 rebounds.

Sage returns to action on Thursday, January 31 when they travel to Maritime College for a 7 p.m. Skyline Conference contest. NYU-Poly host Farmingdale on the same night in an 8 p.m. Skyline Conference game.
