Panthers play spoilers for Sage on Saturday

Albany, NY-- The Sage Colleges' men's basketball team hosted the Panthers of Purchase College on Saturday afternoon in a Skyline Conference game at the Kahl Gym. Purchase posted the 75-62 win to improve to 10-2 overall and 4-2 in the conference, while the loss puts Sage at 6-6 overall and 2-4 in the league.

Sage's senior center Ryan Sager (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane) finished with a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds, but it was not enough as the Panthers came from behind after trailing 31-29 at the break.

Purchase's line-up finished with five players that had double digit scoring performances in the action, while two Panthers had double-doubles. Junior forward David Haughton (Greenburgh, NY/Woodlands) was the high-scorer with his 14 points and 11 rebounds, while sophomore center Joel Neri (Port Chester, NY/Port Chester) had 14 points.  Senior center Craig Davis (Queens, NY/Martin Van Buren) added 13 points with six rebounds and two blocks off the bench as he had nine second half points to pace the squad.

For the Gators, juniors Jeff Stopera (Scotia, NY/Scotia Glenville) and Mason Horne (Albany, NY/La Salle Institute) each had 12 points, while Stopera had six steals.  Senior forward Matt Farbotko (Rouses Point, NY/Northeastern Clinton) connected for eight points, giving him 1,008 career points as the Sage all-time leading career scorer.

Horne now has 755 career points with his numbers on Saturday, while pacing the team in scoring overall this year with his 15.8 ppg.

Sage returns to action on January 14 when they host Maritime College in a 7 p.m. Skyline Conference contest in the Kahl Gym. Purchase College returns to action for an 8 p.m. Skyline Conference contest at the College of Mt. St. Vincent.
