Horne's career-high 24 points not enough as Gators fall to MSMC, 68-66

Newburgh, NY-- The Sage Colleges' men's basketball team travelled to Mt. St. Mary College foe a Skyline Conference contest. The host Knights collected a 68-66 win to improve to 14-7 overall and 11-4 in the league. Sage falls to 10-11 overall and 5-9 in the conference.

The contest was knotted at the break at 32-32 before the Knights took a 56-48 lead with 10:40 left to play. Sage regained the lead at 3:11, 62-60. Sage's senior Will Hennep (Washington, DC/Mercersburg Academy) went to the line with 0:27 left and made two free throws to give the Gators a three-point lead. The Knights tied the action at 0:22 at 66-66 on a made three-pointer by Lenny Ragaglia. Donte Howell hit a lay-up with 0:04 to put his team up by two points, 68-66, a score that would hold up as a three-pointer by Jeff Stopera missed the mark as time expired.

Sage's junior guard Mason Horne (Albany, NY/LaSalle Institute) exploded for a career-high 24   points to lead the Gators. He shot 10-16 from the floor and was the team's high scorer for the 12th time this season. With his performance on Saturday, Horne passed the 900 career point plateau as he now has 902 points as a Gator.

Sage's senior forward Matt Farbotko (Rouses Point, NY/Northeastern Clinton) and Hennep each added 12 points in the loss, while Horne led the Gators on the boards with eight rebounds.

Howell led the Knights with his 19 points, while Chris Frey had 14 points. Joe Henain had 11 rebounds with eight points for the Knights.

Sage returns to action on Wednesday, February 6 when they host Yeshiva University in the Kahl Gym at 8 p.m. in a Skyline Conference contest.
