ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Russell Sage College had four players register seven or more kills in Friday's 3-1 Empire 8 Conference setback at Nazareth. The Golden Flyers won by scores of 25-17, 22-25, 25-21, 25-22.
Junior middle hitter Aniyah Kelley (Newcastle, DE/William Penn) and middle hitter Caitlin Hammecker (Warnerville, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville/
Junior outside hitter Ashleigh Gerkman (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane),added eight kills, while senior outside hitter Macey Salvione (Johnstown, NY/Gloversville), who started the week ranked in the top-30 nationally in kills, aces, points, aces per-set, and points per-set, tallied seven kills. Salvione led all participants with 17 digs, with Hammecker hitting .350.
Setter Emma Rainville (Castleton, NY/Columbia/Binghamton), a grad student, contributed a double-double of 30 assists and 10 digs for the third double-double of her RSC career.
Senior Tessa Grover helped Naz (8-8/3-0 E8) extend its winning streak to five. The setter/right side who received an honorable mention for the 2023 AVCA All-American Team, achieved a triple-double of 17 kills on .424 hitting, 18 assists and 12 digs.
RSC (12-8/2-2 E8) remains in the Greater Rochester area to play at Saint John Fisher on Saturday afternoon.
Gator Bites: RSC began the week leading Empire 8 Conference with 179 aces, 2.84 per-set…Nationally, the Gators ranked 15th and 32nd respectively in those stats…A dozen players returned to the court in 2024…Salvione, middle hitter Monalissa Carius (Hudson, NY/Hudson), a grad student, and Kelley headlined the group…Head Coach Rosilyn Cummings added four newcomers including transfers senior libero Katelyn Atchinson (Alplaus, NY/Niskayuna/Saint Rose) and Rainville, to the squad…Cummings was inducted into the SUNY Plattsburgh Athletic Hall of Fame on September 27…Salvione was announced as the E8 Player of the Week for the periods ending Sunday, September 15 and Sunday, September 29…She commenced the week leading the Conference with 302.0 points, 245 kills, 55 aces, and 0.87 aces per-set…The stats all put the outside hitter in the top-30 nationally in all of those categories, including third in the country with 55 aces and seventh with 0.87 aces per-set…She has tallied double-digit kills 13 times and nine double-doubles this fall.
