NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Russell Sage College split a pair of matches at Saturday's SUNY New Paltz Invitational.
After falling 3-1 to the host Hawks, the Gators swept Mount Saint Mary 3-0.
Senior Macey Salvione (Johnstown, NY/Gloversville) paced RSC with 28 kills on .241 hitting, 15 digs, and three aces. The outside hitter, who ranks second in the Empire 8 Conference with 3.92 kills per-set, registered a double-double of 15 kills and 10 digs in the neutral site victory.
Junior middle hitter Aniyah Kelley (Newcastle, DE/William Penn) added 16 total kills on .250 hitting, and junior outside hitter Ashleigh Gerkman (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) tossed in a combined 15 kills. Kelley netted 13 kills against MSMC (0-7), while Gerkman tallied 10 kills versus SUNY New Paltz (2-3).
Senior libero Katelyn Atchinson (Alplaus, NY/Niskayuna/Saint Rose) accumulated 35 digs and five aces, while setter Emma Rainville (Castleton, NY/Columbia/Binghamton), a grad student,distributed 54 assists across the seven sets.
Looking ahead, RSC (4-2) visits SUNY Delhi on Wednesday for a 6:00pm non-conference contest.
Gator Bites: A dozen Gators returned to the court in 2024…Salvione, middle hitter Monalissa Carius (Hudson, NY/Hudson), a grad student, and Kelley headlined the group…Head Coach Rosilyn Cummings, now in her second season, added four newcomers including transfers Atchinson and Rainville to the squad...Salvione recorded 55 kills, 4.23 per-set, on .233 hitting, seven aces, and 24 digs, across four matches this week...Rainville totaled 101 assists, 7.77 per-set, six aces, and 14 digs, while Atchinson tallied 62 digs, 4.77 per-set, and six aces in the 2-2 week...Cummings, who guided RSC to 3-1 start for the second-straight autumn, is going to be inducted into the SUNY Plattsburgh Athletic Hall of Fame on September 27.
