Albany, NY – Russell Sage College's field hockey team hosted the Express of Wells College on Thursday afternoon in a non-conference match. The Gators delivered the first career field hockey win for interim head coach Nick Pontari as they beat Wells, 6-0. The victory puts RSC at 1-12, while Wells drops to 1-10.
Senior forward Alyssa Fitzgerald (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) put RSC on the scoreboard with her team-leading third goal of the year at the 4:18 mark. By game's end, she had two goals and an assist to lead the Gators with her 10 points.
Rookie midfielder Jania-Lee Harris (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls) also scored a pair of goals, while graduate player Makenna Barton (Oriskany, NY/Rome Free Academy) and senior Madalyn Milligan (Canastota, NY/Canastota) also scored in the match.
In goal for the Gators, rookie Jaia Caron (Bellows Falls, VT/Bellows Falls Union) made four saves in earning her first career win in goal and her first career shutout. Wells sophomore keeper Eve Kowalczyk (Webster, NY) made 13 saves.
The Gators return to action on October 22 travelling to St. John Fisher for a noon Empire 8 match.
