SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Russell Sage College commenced its weekend at the Skidmore Invitational by falling to SUNY Plattsburgh 3-0 (27-25, 25-17, 25-23).
Junior outside hitter Caitlin Hammecker (Warnerville, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) led the Gators with 14 kills, a season-high, on .387 hitting in the setback. Middle hitter Celia Gagnon (Troy, NY/Ichabod Crane), a graduate student, added 11 kills on .360 hitting, while senior defensive specialist Elaina Moisidis (Albany, NY/Albany), the Empire 8 Conference leader in digs and digs per-set, topped all participants with 20 digs. Junior setter Statia Walker (Schodack, NY/Maple Hill), who dished out the 1,000th assist of her career earlier this fall, registered 23 assists and 13 digs for her 13th double-double of the season.
Senior right side Jenn Braun paced SUNY Plattsburgh (7-14) with 10 kills on .269 hitting. Junior libero Payton Zophy (Clifton Park, NY/Shen), one of three Cardinals that elevated double-digit RSC attacks, recorded 18 digs. The setting duo of junior Emma Rivers (18), and freshman Kyleigh Ganz (11) combined for 29 assists in the sweep. Ganz accumulated 10 digs for a double-double.
RSC (4-23) closes its fall tomorrow with a pair of matches at the Tournament.
Notes: The program has achieved many career milestones this fall...Head coach Sandy Augstein-Collins, now in her 13th season coaching at RSC and 26th overall, picked up her 375th career victory on September 14 vs. SUNY Cobleskill…Moisidis, who also topped the Empire 8 Conference with 492 digs, 4.82 per-set, last fall, became the 15th RSC player to surpass 1,000 career digs on September 10 at the SUNY New Paltz Tournament…She started the Tournament sixth in program records with 1,355 career digs…Walker dished out the 1,000th assist of her career on September 30 at St. John Fisher…She entered the contest sixth in school annals with 1,222 career assists…The setter has tallied 13 double-doubles this season…Gagnon surpassed 500 career kills on October 14 vs. Elmira…She began the weekend 15th in program records with 554 career kills.
