Albany, NY--Russell Sage College men's outdoor track and field program had one of its members named to the 2023 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Men's Outdoor Track and Field All-Region Team. Adding to his extensive resume, RSC's senior John Coddington (Amsterdam, NY/Broadalbin-Perth) garnered the prestigious honor.
To earn All-Region honors, an athlete must be one of the top-5 individuals in their event in their respective region on the TFRRS Descending Order List. In addition, each member of a region's top-3 relay team was selected for the distinction. Russell Sage College is part of the Mideast Region.
John Coddington, Senior -- Shot Put, 15.26 meters - second (Mideast Region)
As a senior member of the Gator indoor team, Coddington made the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Region Team in both the weight throw and the shot put. He finished seventh in the weight throw and 12th in the shot put at the All-Atlantic Regional Track and Field Championships. He also earned second-team All-E8 in the weight throw and third-team All-Conference in the shot put. He was also selected the E8 Field Athlete of the Week multiple times. Among his highlights, he bettered his program standards in the shot (15.23m at Utica, 3/4) and the weight throw (16.95m at AARTFCs (3/4).
As a member of the outdoor team, while competing at the AARTFC Championships, he had a throw of 14.78 meters and was 10th in the shot put. He finished in 13th as well in the hammer with a mark of 50.98. Earlier in the season, he set the school record in the hammer toss with his mark of 52.49 meters and finished as the runner-up at the 2023 Empire 8 Championships with his qualifying throw of 15.26 meters, another school record. In addition to his numerous, Empire 8 Weekly Performer of the Week citations, Coddington was named the 2022-2023 Russell Sage College Male Athlete of the Year and was also honored as the recipient of the Dean Sharon Robinson Male Scholar-Athlete Award as the senior student-athlete with the highest grade point average.
The Gators wrap the 2022-2023 outdoor season under rookie Head Coach Regan Grube. RSC had a number of school records along the way as well.
