New Orleans, LA-- Senior John Coddington (Amsterdam, NY/Broadalbin-Perth) of the Russell Sage College men's indoor track and field team, was honored on Wednesday as a member of the 2023 U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Region Team in both the weight throw and the shot put, marking his second straight year garnering the awards.
Coddington, this week's Empire 8 Track and Field performer of the week, is coming off another banner showing at the 2023 All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference Championship held at the Armory in New York City.
Competing in the weight toss, Coddington, who was the 2023 Empire 8 runner up in the weight throw, recorded a mark of 16.66 meters with his first throw. He then bettered his own school record throw of 16.70 meters with his mark of 16.89 meters. That school record did not have a chance to stand for long as Coddington bettered that throw with a toss of 16.95 meters and finished with a program-best seventh place finish at the championship.
At the same meet, he also competed in the shot put and had a mark of 14.55 and finished in 12th place. He holds the school record in the event having recorded a toss of 15.23 meters earlier this season and ranked 33rd nationally entering the Regional Championship meet.
