KEUKA, N.Y. – Russell Sage College Women's Soccer used two second half goals to take down Keuka on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 2-1.
The Gators (5-6-3/4-3-1 E8) outshot the Wolves 22 to four in the win, the two biggest coming from forward Marissa Key (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury), a grad student, and senior defender Amelia Geesler (Glenmont, NY/Bethlehem Central), each of whom found the back of the net to propel RSC to the Empire 8 conference win.
The duo scored their goals in just a two minute span, where Geesler scored off a penalty kick and just a minute later Key took a pass from sophomore midfielder Katelyn Nelson (East Islip, NY/East Islip) to the back of the net to give Russell Sage a 2-1 lead that they would hold onto for their fourth conference victory.
Keuka College (1-10-2/0-6-2 E8) got a goal from Shayla Vetter in the first half in the loss.
"Heart, miles and miles of heart," shared Head Coach Garrett Cobb on what pushed the team to victory on Saturday. "We were in control of the game through the first half, we were unfortunate to give up a goal. We made some tactical tweaks in the second half to spark the offense and put some determination behind everything."
RSC returns to the pitch on Tuesday with a late afternoon matchup against Alfred.
