Sage falls twice in tri-match action at J & W

Providence, RI– The Sage Colleges' men's volleyball travelled to Johnson and Wales University for a non-conference tri-match with Regis College. The Johnson & Wales University men's volleyball squad swept a non-conference tri-match at the Wildcat Center on Saturday, defeating Sage 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-18) in the opening match of the day. The second match of the day had Regis with the 3-0 (25-19, 26-24, 31-29) victory over Sage.   JWU wrapped up the tri-match with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-14) over Regis. Sage stands at 6-11 on the year.

In the win against Sage, Johnson & Wales was led by sophomore Brendan Baker (Providence, R.I.) with 10 kills and nine digs while senior Chris Espinola (Derry, N.H.) had nine kills, four digs and two blocks for the Wildcats.  Junior Raheem Malone (St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands) notched 12 set assists in the victory for JWU.  Freshman Ryan Guyton (Lockport, NY/Lockport) paced Sage with four kills while freshman Tyler Bastos (Ludlow, MA/Ludlow) had 11 set assists and two digs in the loss for the Gators.

Rookie outside hitter Bailey Cecchi (Agawam, MA/Agawam) added two kills with seven digs, while rookie Casey Fitzpatrick (Haverhill, MA/Haverhill) racked up three kills with six digs. Senior Juan Pulanco (Bronx, NY/Urban Assembly Academy) added four kills. Senior co-captain Thaddeus Sipe (Loundonville, NY/Hawthorne Valley) connected for two aces with three digs.

Freshman Marcos Aguirre (Norwalk, Calif.) led the way for Regis in the win over Sage, notching 11 kills with four blocks and two digs.  Freshman Ryan Husher (Camarillo, Calif.) notched 31 set assists, seven kills and three blocks in the win for the Pride.  Cecchi paced Sage with 12 kills and four digs while Bastos notched 20 set assists and five kills in the setback. Guyton added six kills with three aces and eight digs. Fitzpatrick added five kills with seven digs and was perfect with no errors in 25 reception attempts.

Sage returns to action on March 22 travelling to Purchase College for a tri-match with Ramapo College.
