Men's volleyball posts win over Broolkyn College, but drops nightcap to Rutgers-Newark

Newark, NJ– The Sage Colleges' men's volleyball competed on Saturday at the Rutgers University-Newark Golden Dome Classic. Sage opened the day beating Brooklyn College (3-0, 25-23, 25-15, 25-14) for the first win on the young season. In the nightcap, Sage dropped a 3-0 decision to Rutgers-Newark (25-10, 25-12, 25-18). Sage is 1-2 on the year.

Against Brooklyn College (0-6), Sage was once again paced by the outstanding play of rookie outside hitter, Bailey Cecchi (Agawam, MA/Agawam) tallied a match-high 17 kill. He added a .429 hitting percentage with four digs and an ace. Senior co-captain Thaddeus Sipe (Loudonville, NY/Hawthorne Valley) added eight kills and had a .800 attach percentage in the contest with three kills.  Sophomore co-captain Chris MacArthur (Hillsdale, NY/Taconic Hills) added three kills with four digs. Freshman setter Tyler Bastos (Ludlow, MA/Ludlow) finished with 32 setting assists, while adding seven digs and a solo block. Rookie Casey Fitzpatrick (Haverhill, MA/Haverhill) added five kills and a team-best seven digs for the Gators.  Freshman middle hitter Ryan Guyton (Lockport, NY/Lockport) added seven kills with six digs and had four aces.

Against Rutgers-Newark (2-5), Cecchi had seven kills with four digs and had just one reception error in 14 attempts. Guyton had five kills with two digs and a pair of block assists. Bastos added 19 setting assists with two digs and Fitzpatrick added six digs with three kills. 

Sage returns to action on February 7-8 travelling to the Keuka College Tournament. On February 7, Sage will face Elms College and Keuka College in contests at 3 and 6 p.m.
