Union, NJ– The Sage Colleges' men's volleyball travelled to New Jersey for a Skyline Conference tri-match with New Jersey City University and the No. 1 ranked Cougars of Kean University. Against NJCU, Sage fell, 3-1 (23-25, 25-15, 25-18, 25-17). In the nightcap, the Cougars posted the 3-0 victory to remain unbeaten on the year (16-0), while standing perfect in the league (4-0). Sage drops to 4-9 overall and 2-4 in the league after Saturday's action.
Against NJCU, rookie outside hitter Bailey Cecchi (Agawam, MA/Agawam) racked up 13 kills with six digs. Freshman setter Tyler Bastos (Ludlow, MA/Ludlow) finished with 28 setting assists, while adding eight digs and had just two reception errors in 36 attempts. Freshman middle hitter Ryan Guyton (Lockport, NY/Lockport) added five kills with two digs.
Rookie Casey Fitzpatrick (Haverhill, MA/Haverhill) racked up eight kills with a team-best 12 digs, while senior Juan Pulanco (Bronx, NY/Urban Assembly Academy) added five kills with seven digs.
Against the No. 1 team in the nation, Fitzpatrick added seven kills with two digs. Guyton had two aces with three kills, while Cecchi had five kills with three digs. Bastos finished with 13 setting assists and two kills and two digs.
Sage returns to action on March 8 travelling to Yeshiva University for a Skyline Conference tri-match with Sarah Lawrence. Matches for the Gators are 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
