Robinson's big night propels Sage past Spartans

Castleton, VT--The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team travelled to Castleton University on Wednesday evening for a non-conference match with the Spartans. Sage triumphed, 3-1 (23-25, 25-15, 25-16, 25-20) and improves to 10-7 on the year. Castleton drops to 6-5 on the season.

Sage's senior right side Morgan Robinson (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) exploded for a personal-best 17 kills, while pacing the Gators with her .500 attack percentage and three total blocks.

Junior outside hitter Michayla Berard (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) connected for 10 kills in the action and helped the Gators combine for a .220 hitting percentage in the match with 10 aces. Senior middle hitter Mickey Mango (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) tallied nine kills in the contest and this trio continues to climb in the Gator kill record book. Mango is now 10th with 618 career kills, while both Berard and Robinson have 527 career kills and are tied for No. 12, just five shy of moving into the No. 11 spot.

Junior setter Rachel Liebig (Hartford, NY/Hartford) had 42 setting assists with an ace, two kills and eight digs. Liebig has tallied 1,918 career setting assists and is ranked No. 4. She is closing in on her 2,000th career setting assist, which would make her one of just four Sage players with 2,000 or more career setting assists.

Junior libero Siena Wilder (Ballston Spa, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Spa) had a team-best six aces with 16 digs, while junior Katy Rimawi (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) racked up 12 with eight kills.

Sage is back in action on October 3 with a road trip to Long Island as the Gators will open Skyline Conference play. Sage, the defending league champions will open the day against St. Joseph's (LI) and then take on SUNY-Old Westbury with matches at noon and 2 p.m.

The 2015 Sage team brings a Skyline Conference regular-season win streak that has grown to 22 matches and dates back to October 3, 2012. The last Skyline Conference setback for Sage in conference play was a loss on Oct. 3, 2012 (3-1 to Mt. St. Mary College).
