Gators hang on to beat SUNY-Polytechnic on opening night, 3-1

Albany, NY –The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team opened the new season on Wednesday night in the Kahl Gym hosting the Wildcats SUNY-Polytechnic. The Gators collected the 3-1 win beating SUNY-Poly, 25-23, 25-21, 23-25, 27-25 in a hard fought match-up. With the win Sage is now 1-0 on the year, while SUNY-Polytechnic is 0-1.

Leading the way for Sage was the tandem of senior middle hitter Mickey Mango (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) and junior right Morgan Robinson (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) as the pair each had seven kills in the action.

Junior outside hitter Katy Rimawi (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) and sophomore Alyssa Nellis (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) both added five kills as Sage held SUNY-Polytechnic to a 0.58 attack percentage in the match. Junior setter Rachel Liebig (Hartford, NY/Hartford) added 25 setting assists with five digs and a pair of block assists. Junior outside hitter Siena Wilder (Ballston Spa, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Spa) had a match-high 17 digs, while sophomore defensive specialist sophomore Missy Scheiderman (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) tallied 14 digs with an ace. Rimawi added 13 digs, while Mango had six total blocks in the contest.

SUNY-Polytechnic's junior right side Emma Larson (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) had a match-best 18 kills with a .214 attack percentage and had two aces with 12 digs. Senior outside hitter Morgan Eberley (Utica, NY/Whitesboro) also had a double-double with her 13 kills and 13 digs with a pair of blocks and aces. Rookie setter Sydney Johnson (Nine Mile Falls, WA/Lakeside) added 29 setting assist, while connecting for eight digs.
