SAGE WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL TAKES A PAIR OF MATCHES IN SKYLINE TRI-MATCH PLAY

Albany, NY -   The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team hosted a Skyline Conference tri-match on Saturday featuring the Privateers of Maritime College, the Jays of NYU-Poly and the Gators. Sage went 2-0 on the day with wins over Maritime and NYU-Poly. NYU-Poly went 1-1, while Maritime went 0-2 in conference action on Saturday.

In the first match of the day, Sage beat Maritime, 3-0 (25-8 , 25-9, 25-6). With the win, Sage improved to 15-5 overall and 5-1 in the Skyline Conference, while Maritime drops to 0-13 overall and 0-3 in the league.

For Sage, junior setter Joanie Cooney (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) connected on 19 setting assists with three kills and three digs. In the match, she moved into the No. 2 spot on Sage's career setting assist list as she has tallied 2,026. She moved ahead of Sarah Busch (2,015, 2001-2004).

For the Gators, sophomore Helen Putriment (Troy, NY/Cobleskill Richmondville) and sophomore Jillian Schwab (Fayetteville, NY/Fayetteville Manlius) each had six kills, while Schwab connected for eight aces. Putriment added nine digs for the Gators, while sophomore libero Katelyn Drollette (Cadyville, NY/Saranac) recorded 10 digs in the match.

Maritime's junior setter Alyssa Pourmonir (Pittston, PA/Pittston Area) paced the Privateers with seven digs and seven setting assists, while rookie Cecilie Hammer (Stavanger, Norway) tallied four kills with six digs.

NYU-Poly defeated Maritime, 3-0 in the second match of the day (25-5, 25-16, 25-10). The win put the Jays at 5-18 overall and 2-2 in the conference heading into the final match of the day. Maritime drops to 0-14 overall and 0-4 in the Skyline Conference.

The Jays opened the action as senior Shelby Bruns (Elko, NV/Elko) served the first 15 points of the match and built a 14-0 lead for her squad, before the Privateers scored a point. Bruns would finish the match with five kills, five aces and five digs. Senior middle back Corey Loupe (Crown Point, IN) added a match-high 14 kills with nine aces.

Rookie Alyssa Niquette (Lake Havasu City, AZ) racked up 22 setting assists for the Jays with five digs and pair of aces and kills.

Maritime's Hammer had six digs, while senior Jerrica Romero (Bronx, NY/Herbert H. Lehman) and sophomore Sydney Carella (Greenville, NY/Greenville) each had five digs.

In the final Sage jumped out to a 2-0 lead taking the first sets 26-24, 26-24 and the Jays posted a 25-22 win in the third set. Sage took the final set 25-13 and posted the second victory of the day to improve to 16-5 overall and 6-1 in the conference.

Gator junior setter Cooney posted a match-high 39 setting assists and elevated her career total to 2,065. She also finished with 19 digs and three kills with an ace. Putriment added eight kills with nine digs and made just one receptions error in her 32 attempts. Freshman Morgan Robinson (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) added a team-best 14 kills with nine digs. Freshman Kelsey Ray (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) had a double-double with her 11 kills and 14 kills.

NYU-Poly's Loupe had a match-high 17 kills  with three aces and 10 digs for the Jays. Bruns also collected 15 digs and seven kills, while Niquette had 32 setting assists with seven digs and three block assists.
