Volleyball team tallies two more wins

Marcy, NY -   The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team travelled to SUNY-IT on Saturday and wrapped competition at the two-day Wildcat Invitational. Sage tallied a pair of 3-0 wins beating both Cazenovia College and Wells College and now stand at 14-4 overall on the season.

Against Cazenovia, Sage won 25-20, 25-13, 25-22. Sage's sophomore Helen Putriment (Troy, NY/Cobleskill Richmondville) added 9 kills and 13 digs, while rookie Kelsey Ray (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) added a team-best 11 kills. Sage's junior setter Joanie Cooney (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) connected on 28 setting assists with 10 digs.  Sage's libero, sophomore Katelyn Drollette (Cadyville, NY/Saranac) recorded 13 digs in the match.

Against Wells, Sage tallied a convincing win (25-13, 25-13, 25-9).

Cooney tallied 28 setting assists in the nightcap. She now has 1,969 career setting assists and is closing in on becoming the third player in program history to have 2,000 career setting assists.

Freshman Mickey Mango (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) had five kills with two aces and five total blocks. Putriment added six kills with 10 digs. Sophomore Jillian Schwab (Fayetteville, NY/Fayetteville Manlius) added a team-best seven kills to help the Gators to the win.

Sage returns to action on October 3 hosting Mt. St. Mary College in a 7 p.m. Skyline Conference match to be held at the Kahl Center (Albany, NY).
