Putriment excels as Sage downs Cobleskill, 3-0

Troy, NY--The Sage College's women's volleyball team hosted the Fighting Tigers of SUNY-Cobleskill on Wednesday night in the Neff Center. The contest marked the second time these two teams have played one another after facing off on opening night in the Elms College Third Annual Blazer Invitational. Sage downed the Fighting Tigers, 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-18) to improve to 4-0, while SUNY-Cobleskill drops to 2-2.

Sage's sophomore outside hitter, Helen Putriment (Troy, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) made her 2012 debut in the Gators' lineup an impressive one as she racked up a double-double with a match-best 17 kills and added 12 digs. She had a .680 attack percentage as she had no errors in 25 total attempts. Rookie middle hitter Mickey Mango (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga) added eight kills and five digs as well for Sage, while junior co-captain Joanie Cooney (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) added 35 setting assists with 12 digs with four kills and three serving aces.

SUNY-Cobleskill's freshman Melissa Spears (East Fishkill, NY/John Jay) and rookie Brandi Persico (Ravena, NY/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk) each tallied four kills for the match.  Sophomore libero Kim Cordova (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) had eight digs, while junior Amber Baker (Caroga Lake, NY/Johnston) had seven digs.

Junior setter Taylor VanWinkler (Richfield Springs, NY/Richfield Springs) paced the team with her seven setting assists.

The Gators will host Purchase College on Saturday, September 8 at 1 p.m. in the Neff Center (Troy, NY), while SUNY-Cobleskill will host Utica College on September 12 at 7 p.m.
