Bard hands Gators first women's tennis loss

Troy, NY– The Sage Colleges' women's tennis team hosted Bard College on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference match at Prospect Park. The Raptors handed Sage their first loss of the season, 6-2. Bard improves to 2-0, while Sage drops to 5-1.

Sage's senior captain Mackenzie Riley (Albany, NY/Albany) picked up a 4-6, 7-5, 11-9 win at No. 2 singles as she beat Julia DeFabo keeping her perfect on the season. With the win she stands at 6-0 this season and has elevated her personal win streak to 13 straight matches. Her streak dates back to October of 2010. She is now 16-1 in singles on her Sage career.

Riley and senior Isabella Perricone (Scotia, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Lake) dropped an 8-4 match at No. 1 doubles to Bard's Jean Wong and Julia DeFabo. Perricone picked up a win at No. 3 singles as her opponent, Nelle Plotkin was forced to retire after dropping the first set, 7-6 (8-6).

At No. 1 singles, Sage's sophomore Kirsten Ackerman (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) and Wong were unable to finish the match due to darkness. Ackerman won the first set, 6-0 and the action was tied at 3-3 in the second set.

Sage returns to action on Saturday, September 15 hosting Plattsburgh State in a 2 p.m. match at Prospect Park. Bard College will also be in action on Saturday, hosting Sarah Lawrence in a 1 p.m. home match.
