Troy, NY– The Sage Colleges' women's tennis team hosted the Cardinals of Plattsburgh State on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals collected a 6-3 win to improve to 5-1 on the year, while the loss puts Sage at 5-2.
The Gators took first through third singles as sophomore Kirsten Ackerman (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) defeated senior Rachel Hodnett (Malta, NY/Ballston Spa), 6-3, 6-3. Ackerman remains unbeaten on the year in singles this fall as a Gator and is now 6-0, while riding a 10-match singles' win streak dating back to last season.
Sage's senior captain Mackenzie Riley (Albany, NY/Albany) picked up a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 2 singles as she beat sophomore Samantha Engebrecht (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) to also stay perfect in singles play this season. With the win, Riley stands at 7-0 this season and has elevated her personal win streak to 14 straight matches. Her streak dates back to October of 2010. She is now 17-1 in singles on her Sage career.
Senior Isabella Perricone (Scotia, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Lake) collected the Gators' lone other win on the day as he tallied a 6-1, 2-6, 10-7 win over the Cardinals' sophomore Stephanie Omlin (Schuyler Falls, NY/Peru). Pericone stands at 7-0 on the fall in singles play for Sage.
Senior Jessica Paquette (Enosburg Falls, VT/Bellows Free Academy) teamed at No. 1 doubles with Engebrecht for Plattsburgh State for an 8-4 win over Sage's Riley and Pericone.
