Newburgh, NY– The Sage Colleges' women's tennis team travelled to Mt. St. Mary College on Wednesday night for a Skyline Conference match. The Knights tallied a 7-2 win over Sage to improve to 9-0 overall and 5-0 in the Skyline Conference. The loss puts Sage at 8-5 overall and 2-3 in the league.

Sage tallied a pair of key wins as sophomore Kirsten Ackerman (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) beat senior Gabriela Murphy-Goldberg (Newburgh, NY/John S. Burke Catholic), 6-2, 7-5. Murphy-Goldberg was named last year's Skyline Conference Tournament MVP and earned First-Team All-League honors. Ackerman's singles victory improves to 13-1 overall and a perfect 12-0 in dual match singles play. |
Ackerman teamed at No. 1 doubles with senior captain Mackenzie Riley (Albany, NY/Albany) for an 8-2 win over Murphy-Goldberg and Jill Saydlowski.
Riley dropped a three-set heartbreaker at No. 2 singles to Morgan Holbrook, while senior Isabella Pericone (Scotia, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Lake) dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision to Ashlynne O'Brien, marking her first loss on the 2012 season. Pericone is now 12-1 this fall.
The Gators will play their next match on October 20 when they host St. Joseph's College in a Skyline Conference match. Sage will honor their 2012 seniors in conjunction with the match.
