Glenmont, NY---The Sage Colleges men's soccer team hosted the Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's College (LI) on Saturday afternoon in Skyline Conference match. St. Joe's tallied a 2-0 win to snap Sage's 12-game win streak which spanned from September 1 until October 13. SJC improved to 8-8 overall and 6-1 in the Skyline Conference while the loss puts Sage at 12-2 overall and also 6-1 in the league.
Sage's starting goalie, freshman TJ Zehner (Beacon, NY/Beacon) was knocked from the game after just 7:12 played on a collision with a St. Joseph's player. He was replaced by junior Tim Madden (Watertown, NY/Watertown) and the score was 0-0.
Senior stopper Joe Dettori (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) broke the scoreless tie with an unassisted goal at the 34:45. The goal was his 12th of the season and would turn out to be the game-winner, his fourth of the year.
Senior midfielder Brendan O'Brien (Mount Sinai, NY/Mount Sinai) gave the Golden Eagles a 2-0 lead with feed from freshman Gaetano Innamorato (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) at 59:23.
The Gators made several hard shots in the second half, including one that would have been a sure goal as Dylan Evans (Bohemia, NY/St. John the Baptist) after the Gator's shot got past the goalie and Evans made a diving kick to prevent the goal.
Madden would suffer the loss to drop to 2-1 after making four saves. Zehner made three saves in his seven plus minutes before being forced to the sidelines. Senior Chris Muhs (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) picked up the shutout win to improve to 7-6 after making four saves.
