Albany, NY---The Sage Colleges men's soccer team hosted the Rams of Farmingdale State College on Saturday in a Skyline Conference match. The Rams posted a 2-0 win to improve to 8-8-1 overall and 6-3 in the league. Sage drops to 12-3-1 overall and 6-2-1 in the league.
The Rams scored the first goal of the afternoon at the 25:20 mark as junior defender Matt Kirby (West Islip, NY/West Islip) on a feed off the corner from junior Dennis Sfoglia (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa). The goal was the third of the season for Kirby.
FSC held a 1-0 halftime lead before tallying the final score at 76:14 as rookie midfielder Victor Romero (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) collected his fifth goal of the fall on a feed from junior John Popovic (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin).
The Gators had several chances and held a 9-7 advantage on shots, but FSC's junior goalie Angelo Viteritti (East Northport, NY/John Glenn) came up with some big saves. He finished with six saves in earning the shutout win. Sage freshman goalkeeper TJ Zehner (Beacon, NY/Beacon) made four saves in the match.
Sage returns to action on October 23 hosting MCLA in the final regular-season match of the fall. Action commences at 7 p.m. at RPI's Renwyck Field.
