Jarosz and Barnes provide spark as Gators down NYU-Poly, 2-1

Brooklyn, NY---The Sage Colleges men's soccer team travelled to NYU-Poly for a Skyline Conference men's soccer match. The Gators tallied a 2-1 win to improve to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the Skyline Conference. The Gators have now won seven consecutive games after dropping the opener. NYU-Poly falls to 3-4 and now 2-1 in the league with the loss on Saturday.

Sage's junior forward Scott Jarosz (Brunswick, ME/Brunswick) put the Gators on the scoreboard with his team-best ninth goals of the season. Jarosz scored at the 53:00 mark on a feed from sophomore Jose Miranda (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore). With his efforts on Saturday, Jarosz tied the Gator career scoring mark for the young program set last fall by Wesley Finch as they both have 37 career total points. Jarosz, who is working on a personal-best campaign now has 18 career goals and an assist for 37 points. His 18 career goals in an active Sage career goal-scoring record.

The Jays tied the action nearly seven minutes later as senior Mamadou Dianko (Dakar, Senegal/Cours Sainte Marie of Hann) scored unassisted at 61:00.

Connecting on the game-winner for the Gators was sophomore Kenny Barnes (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) as he tallied his second goal of the year and his first game-winner at Sage. Barnes scored at the 65:00 mark.

The Jays came close in the final six minutes as they had a free kick at the top of the 18-yard mark and just missed by inched off the post.

In goal for the Gators, freshman TJ Zehner (Beacon, NY/Beacon) made five saves, including a key pair in the first half to keep the score at 0-0 at the break. Zehner improves to 5-1 in goal for the Gators. NYU-Poly's sophomore Brendan Finn (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) made a pair of saves for the Jays.

Sage returns to action on September 26 hosting Maritime College in a 7 p.m. Skyline match at Colonie Central High School.
