Jarosz scores twice to left Gators over Elmira

Elmira, NY---The Sage Colleges men's soccer team collected a 2-1 win on the road over Elmira College on Sunday afternoon. The win for Sage is the squad's 11th in a row as the Gators improve to 11-1 overall, while Elmira College drops to 9-3 on the year.


Elmira College jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Alexander Poole converted a penalty kick at the 67:34 mark and broke a 0-0 tie.

Sage's junior forward Scott Jarosz (Brunswick, ME/Brunswick) tied the game with his score at 72:25 on a feed from sophomore Gustavo Trinidad (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck). With three minutes left in regulation, Jarosz scored his second goal of the game and collected the game-winner with his goal on a feed from junior Kevin Dommreis (LaGrangeville, NY/Millbrook) at 87:00.

Jarosz penned his name to another Sage scoring record on Sunday and he leads the team in scoring with 17 goals and broke the Sage single-season scoring record with his 34 points.  He now owns Sage's single-season record for most goals (17), most points in a season (34), most goals in a career (26), and most career points (53).

In goal for the Gators, freshman TJ Zehner (Beacon, NY/Beacon) made 11 saves in posting the win and now improves to 9-1 in goal. Elmira College's Jordan Dougherty made 3 saves in suffering the loss.

Jarosz started the week ranked No. 3 in the nation in scoring with his 14 goal and 1.4 goals per game average. He tallied three goals this week and is now averaging 1.42 goals per game in 12 games played this fall. He was also ranked No. 6 nationally at the start of last week with his 28 points and now has 34 points on the season and will most certainly move up in the national ranking with the release of the newest NCAA Division III statistics on Tuesday afternoon. 

Sage returns to action on Wednesday, October 10 when they host the College of Mt. St. Vincent in a 4 p.m. Skyline Conference match to be held at Bethlehem SoccerPlex.
