Heartbreaking loss for Sage at MSMC, 3-2 in double OT

Newburgh, NY The Sage Colleges' men's soccer team travelled to Mt. St. Mary College for a Skyline Conference contest on Tuesday night. Sage jumped out to a 2-0 lead at the half, but the Knights answered back with two second half goals to send the game to overtime after a 2-2 tie in regulation. MSMC connected on the game-winning goal with just five seconds to play in the second overtime period as Chris Marchese found the ball and headed it in for the win at 109:55. MSMC is 10-4-1 overall and 7-1 in the conference, while Sage drops to 7-6-1 overall and 5-2 in the league.

Junior Peter Fabrykiwicz (Delancey, NY/Andes) gave the Gators a quick lead as he scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season on a pass from senior Jose Miranda (Bay Shore, NY/ Bay Shore) at 11:15.  Minutes later, senior Gustavo Trinidad (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) gave the Gators a 2-0 lead as he scored at 15:10.

The Knights came out at the break and cut the deficit by one as Matt Garcia scored on a pass from Chris Marchese at 48:55. Garcia tallied his second goal of the night and his eighth of the season at 65:24 to tie the action at 2-2. After no scoring in the first 10 minute overtime period the game went to the second overtime and the game almost ended as a tie, but the Knights triumphed on a goal by Marchese in the pouring rain.

Trinidad continues to add to his active record as Sage's all-time leading point scorer as has 75 points on 23 goals and 29 assists.  

Sage's junior goalie T.J. Zehner (Beacon, NY/Beacon) added eight saves on the night and now has 150 career saves, an active record. MSMC's keeper Austin Pelosi made six saves in the contest.

Sage returns to action on October 25 hosting the College of Mt. St. Vincent in a 1 p.m. Skyline Conference contest that will take place at Albany College of Pharmacy's Athletic Complex. Prior to the game, the Gators will honor their 2014 seniors, Gustavo Trinidad, Jose Miranda, and Tyler Denton (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit Valley).
