Purchase posts 2-1 win over Sage despite second half push from the Gators

Purchase, NY – The Sage Colleges' men's soccer team travelled to Purchase College for a Skyline Conference match on Thursday night. The host Panthers posted a 2-1 win after leading 2-0 at the break. The loss was the first setback in conference play for the Gators and the first loss for Sage in the team's last five games. Sage is 4-5-1 overall and 2-1 in the Skyline, while Purchase improves to 6-5-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the Skyline. Purchase was the top pick in the Skyline Conference Coaches' Poll with 57 points and four first place votes, while the Gators were picked third with 52 points and one first place vote.

Purchase scored the first goal of the night a Myles Clohessy converted the feed from Andrew Romero at 29:26 for his first goal of the season. Ten minutes later, Samvara Anello gave the Panthers a 2-0 lead as he scored on a pass from Junior Sanguina at 37:30.

Sage jumped on the scoreboard as rookie Derlis Zayas (White Plains, NY/White Plains) headed the ball in a pass from senior defender Tyler Denton (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit Valley) at 79:22. The goal was the first of the season for Zayas, while Denton is tied for assists this fall with three.

Denton moved into a tie in Sage's career scoring race as he now has 24 points on 8 goals and 8 assists and is tied with Chris Peralta (8g, 8 a, 2010-2011). He is also now tied for the No. 4 spot on Sage's career assist list with Peralta as the pair now have 8 assists each.

Sage's junior goalie TJ Zehner (Beacon, NY/Beacon) was in net for the Gators and had three saves in goal for the Gators. Purchase's Esteban Aguilar made three saves.

Sage is back in action on Saturday, October 11 hosting Maritime College at 1 p.m. at Albany Pharmacy's Athletic Complex.
