Saar tallies five points as Gators open Skyline play with 3-0 win at Yeshiva

TEANECK, NJ – The Sage Colleges' men's soccer team travelled to New Jersey and opened the 2014 Skyline Conference season on Sunday facing Yeshiva University. Sage posted a 3-0 win to start league play on a high note as freshman midfielder Kevin Saar (Binghamton, NY/Windsor Central) scored twice in the action and finished with five points on the day.

Sage stands at the 2-4-1 overall and is now 1-0 in conference play, while Yeshiva drops to 5-3-1 and 1-3-1 in the league.

The Gators scored all three goals in the second half of play as Saar tallied what would be the game winner on a feed from junior Sean Lanza (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill) and senior Tyler Denton (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit Valley) at 50:58.  Junior defender Mu'Ammar Camara (New Haven, CT/Eli Whitney) helped the Gators finish the match on all cylinders as he scored on a pass from rookie Paul Reynoso (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) and Saar at 85:35. Saar capped his impressive afternoon with a goal at 86:51 on a pass from Denton.

Saar and Camara lead the team with five points on two goals and an assist thus far through seven matches played.

Sage's junior goalie TJ Zehner (Beacon, NY/Beacon) had six saves in the action as he picked up his second shutout of the 2014 season and is now the program's all-time leader in saves (125), wins (16), and shutouts (12).

Sage is back in action on Saturday, September 27 hosting St. Joseph's College (LI) at 4:30 p.m. at Saint Rose's Plumeri Sports Complex.
