Men's Soccer Closes out regular-season with key Skyline Win, besting Panthers 6-0; Sage earns No. 2 seed

Old Westbury, NY The Sage Colleges' men's soccer team travelled to SUNY-Old Westbury on Wednesday afternoon for their regular-season finale. Six different players scored for the Gators as they triumphed, 6-0 and finish the 2014 regular-season with an impressive 9-6-1 overall record. Sage went 7-2 in Skyline Conference play and earned the No. 2 seed for the upcoming conference tournament and earned a first-round bye.

Sage will host the semifinals on Wednesday, November 5 at 12:30 p.m. at the Albany College of Pharmacy's Athletic Complex. The Gators will face the winner of the quarterfinal contest featuring No. 3 vs. No. 6, Maritime College and Purchase College at the Albany College of Pharmacy's Athletic Complex.

Rookie midfielder Kevin Saar (Binghamton, NY/Windsor Central) found the net first for the Gators at 3:02 on a pass from sophomore Alex Lanza (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill) and sophomore Kyle LeClerc (Beacon, NY/Beacon). By game's Alex Lanza had two assists, while his brother, junior Sean Lanza (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill) also had a pair of assists.

Sage's senior Gustavo Trinidad (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) added a goal and an assist in the action, adding to his active career point record. He has 78 points on 24 goals and 30 career assists. He also holds the program's career assist record, while standing No. 2 in career goals with 24. On the 2014 campaign, Trinidad has 14 points on 3 goals with a team-best 8 assists this fall. Saar, now has 2 game-winning goals with 13 points on 5 goals and 3 assists.

Senior Jose Miranda (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) and junior Peter Fabrykiwicz (Delancey, NY/Andes) each scored for the Gators as they outshot the Panthers, 29-14. Fabrykiwicz leads the Gators with 20 points this season on 8 goals and 4 assists, while Miranda is the team's second leading scorer this year on 5 goals and 5 assists with 15 points.  Miranda is now No. 3 all-time in career points (47), while ranking No. 3 in goals (16) and No. 2 in assists (15).

Sage's trio of goalies earned the shutout win on Wednesday, the 8th of the year for the Gators. Junior T.J. Zehner (Beacon, NY/Beacon) started and played the first half and had 2 saves in 45 minutes of work. He shared the win with junior Chris Dunham (Valley Falls, NY/Grace Christian) and rookie keeper Caelan Kohut (Ancram, NY/Hudson). Zehner continues to add to his extensive list of records as the Gators' keeper.

He has a active records for most saves (153), most wins (23), most shutouts (13.1), most appearances in goal (41) and most career starts in goal (41).

Since adding men's soccer, the Gators have now appeared in every Skyline Conference Tournament since the 2010 season and finished this season as the Skyline Conference regular-season runner-up.

The 2014 Skyline Conference Championship will be held in conjunction with the Fall Festival at Purchase College on November 8 with the men's championship match taking place at 1:30 p.m. The 2014 Skyline Conference Champion will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
