Gators play Union to a scoreless OT tie

Schenectady, NY – The Sage Colleges' men's soccer team travelled to Union College for a non-conference contest on Wednesday night. Union and Sage could not find the back of the net as they played to a scoreless tie on Wednesday night at College Park. Sage is now 1-4-1, while Union is 2-3-1 on the year.

The Dutchmen had several chances in the extra session to seal the victory but failed to convert. In the 91st minute, Tyler DeWaltoff missed wide on his header attempt off the cross by Andrew Fontaine. Two minutes later, Kevin Janson saw his header sail high just over the net.

In the 108th minute of the match, Sam Hunter had possibly the best scoring opportunity of the game as the junior got off a header from the corner kick from Nicholas Hall-Risko with the left side of the net clear of Sage defenders. However, he just missed his mark and the ball went wide of the net.

Union's defense held strong throughout the 100 minutes of action as the Gators only got off 10 shots (four on goal) with only one shot coming in the overtime periods. Ryan Carter made four saves in the contest, while Sage's junior goalie TJ Zehner (Beacon, NY/Beacon) had two saves in the action as the Dutchmen outshot Sage 17-10 and held a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks.

Sage is back in action in the Gators' 2014 Skyline Conference opener as they face Yeshiva University on September 21 at 1 p.m. on the campus of FDI-Teaneck.
