Gators Prep for the Playoffs at No. 10 Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Russell Sage College closed its regular season with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-19) non-conference loss at Vassar, ranked tenth in the latest AVCA National Poll.

The Gators had five players register at least three kills on Saturday.

Sophomore outside hitter Spencer Cooper (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) led RSC with six kills, while Freshman middle blocker Evan Devine (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) added five kills on .444 hitting and two total blocks.

Freshman setter Anthony Guetti (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) dished out 20 assists and blocked three Vassar attacks, with sophomore opposite Dylan Fox (Albany, NY/Colonie Central), the 2024 New England Volleyball Conference Rookie of the Year, tallying two aces and eight digs.

Vassar (21-4), which held RSC to -.013 hitting in its "Senior Day" sweep, received multiple kills from eight different players.  Junior middle blocker James Zuckerman topped the Brewers with eight kills on .615 hitting.

RSC (9-22) plays next in the first round of the NEVC Championship Tournament on Wednesday at Endicott.  The 7:00 PM meeting will mark the second-straight spring where the squads will meet in the Conference playoffs.


Gator Bites with Papa John's: The spring marks the fourth with Reid Hartl at the helm of the Gators…RSC returns six players from last season's team, highlighted by Fox, the 2024 New England Volleyball Conference Rookie of the Year…The opposite, chosen the NEVC Player of the Week twice this spring, began the week ranked second in the Conference with 316 kills...Guetti was selected the NEVC Rookie of the Week for the period ending Sunday, March 30...He recorded 107 assists, 16 digs, eight aces, four kills, and a block to help RSC go 2-1 and secure an NEVC Championship Tournament berth...Hartl added nine newcomers to the roster, including senior middle blocker Confidence Burrowes (East Orange, NJ/Donald M. Payne/Wells)…Fox, Burrows, and senior libero Wylkins Occelin (Brooklyn, NY/John Dewey) were voted co-captains.
