MANAHAWKIN, N.J. — Russell Sage College Field Hockey had 11 student-athletes make the 2024 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III National Academic Squad.
Sponsored by OPA Winning Teams, the NFHCA National Academic Squad program honors undergraduate student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher through the fall semester, nominated by their NFHCA member coaches.
Senior midfielder Madalyn Ring (Gansevoort, NY/South Glens Falls), junior midfielder Tayler Haslob (Monroe, CT/Masuk), freshman midfielder Kari Gage (Gansevoort, NY/South Glens Falls), sophomore midfielder Cheyanne Zobel (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa), junior forward Emma Heartquist (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane), sophomore defender Alexis Olen (Woodstock, NY/Onteora), senior defender Anna Church (Reading, VT/Green Mountain Union), freshman forward Maya Albers (Sparta, NJ/Sparta), freshman midfielder Victoria Nucifore (Wappingers Falls, NY/Roy C. Ketcham), senior defender Shauna Lanoue (Troy, NY/Columbia) and freshman goalkeeper/midfielder Olivia Brand (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) represented the Gators on the squad.
Four student-athletes: Brand, Lanoue, Olen, and Ring, were recognized as 2024 Division III Scholars of Distinction. This program acknowledges exceptional undergraduate student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.9 or higher through the fall semester, nominated by their NFHCA member coaches.
Gator Bites with Papa John's: The fall marked the first with Carissa Warren leading the Gators…She arrived to Albany from two-time defending Empire 8 Conference Champion Hartwick…RSC delivered Warren her first career victory on September 27, a 7-0 E8 shutout of visiting Elmira…Russell Sage College Field Hockey goalkeepers were busy this fall, leading the NCAA Division III with 15.81 saves per-game…On an individual level, Brand totaled 146 saves across ten games played at goalie,14.60 per-game, good for third in the country…The rookie received an honorable mention to be the NFHCA Division III Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, September 29…She scored a goal in the September 27 shutout of visiting Elmira before making 13 saves in her first collegiate start, a 2-0 non-conference setback at RPI on September 28…Brand was chosen the E8 Defensive Player of the Week honors for her efforts…She established the program's single-game record, along with the 2024 NCAA high water mark, regardless of division, with 39 saves versus Skidmore on October 16…Three players: Lanoue, midfielder Alexa Wentz (Whitney Point, NY/ Whitney Point), a grad student, and Zobel, were voted to the 2024 All-Empire 8 Conference teams.
