GENESEO, N.Y. – Russell Sage College Field Hockey dropped Saturday Afternoon's battle with SUNY Geneseo by a final score of 9-1.
Freshman goalkeeper Olivia Brand (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls), coming off a game in which she set the NCAA Division III standard for the 2024 season in single-game saves, stopped 14 shots in the loss.
SUNY Geneseo (13-1/6-0 E8), which entered the matinee boasting the top offense (4.071 goals per-game) and defense (0.92 goals against average) in the Conference, have now won ten straight. Seven knights scored goals in the victory.
Looking ahead, RSC (1-12/1-5 E8) hosts Houghton on Saturday at 2:00 PM. The matinee will also serve as the program's "Senior Day".
Gator Bites: The fall marks the first with Head Coach Carissa Warren leading the Gators…She arrived to Albany from two-time defending Empire 8 Conference Champion Hartwick…RSC delivered Warren her first career victory on September 27, a 7-0 E8 shutout of visiting Elmira…The Gators made the E8 Championship Tournament for the first time in 2023…11 players, including All-Conference selections: midfielder Alexa Wentz (Whitney Point, NY/ Whitney Point), a grad student, and sophomore midfielder Cheyanne Zobel (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa), returned from the squad…RSC goalkeepers have been busy this fall, opening the week leading the country with 14.00 saves per-game…As a rookie, Zobel ranked seventh in the country and second in the E8 with 0.75 assists per-game…She started the week tied for second in the Conference with five assists…Freshman goalkeeper Olivia Brand (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) received an honorable mention to be the NFHCA Division III Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, September 29…The rookie scored a goal in the September 27 shutout of visiting Elmira before making 13 saves in her first collegiate start, a 2-0 non-conference setback at RPI on September 28…She was chosen the E8 Defensive Player of the Week honors for her efforts...Brand made 39 saves, the most by an NCAA Division III goalkeeper in a game this fall, on October 16 vs. Skidmore...The mark also is the program's single-game record.
