ALBANY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College was upended 3-0 by visiting SUNY Brockport, currently sitting atop the Empire 8 Conference standings, this afternoon.
The UAlbany turf was tilted in favor of the Golden Eagles, which began the weekend as the top offense in the E8, across the Saturday matinee. SUNY Brockport (8-3/4-0 E8), now winners of five in-a-row, out-shot RSC 41-5, including 24-0 after the half, and held a 9-2 advantage on penalty corners.
The Gator defense, led by seniors Anna Church (Reading, VT/Green Mountain Union), Megan Daniels (Groveland, MA/Pentucket) and Shauna Lanoue (Troy, NY/Columbia) in front of freshman goalkeeperOlivia Brand (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls), its best to keep RSC within striking distance, only allowing less than 54.0 percent of the shots to be on goal. Brand, who received an honorable mention for the NFHCA Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, September 29, stopped 17 SUNY Brockport shots, while Lanoue registered a pair of defensive saves.
Looking ahead, RSC (1-9/1-3 E8) hosts Hartwick on Wednesday at 6:00 PM.
